Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at Thecoyotewrestlingclub@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

1. Do we need wrestling shoes?

  • Wrestling shoes are not required, but they are highly recommended. Regular street shoes are not allowed on the mats, and if your wrestler doesn't have wrestling shoes, they’ll need to practice in socks. Socks offer no grip, which can lead to slipping and reduced performance. Wrestling shoes also help protect the feet and toes from injury.

2. What does my child need for practice?

For the best practice experience, your wrestler should wear:

  • Athletic shorts. No buttons, zippers or anything else that may cause abrasions to yourself or others (or rip the mat).
  • A shirt that can be tucked in
  • Wrestling shoes (see above)
  • Headgear is not required for practice but is optional if you'd like added protection.
If your wrestler has braces, a mouthguard is a smart idea—and it's required for tournaments (top and/or bottom, depending on the braces).
    And don't forget: bring water!

3. How can we prevent skin irritations or infections?

  • We take cleanliness seriously.
  • Mats are mopped daily
  • Clean clothes must be worn to every practice
  • Shower immediately after practice—preferably using anti-bacterial soap or      body wash
  • Wrestling is a close-contact sport, and good hygiene helps keep everyone healthy and safe.

4. Do you only accept students from certain schools?

  • No! We welcome all students, regardless of what school they attend.
We do not recruit for specific schools or promote transferring for athletic reasons. Our mission is simple: we're here for the kids, offering opportunities for growth through wrestling, teamwork, and competition.

5. What if we’re unsure about wrestling? Can we try it out first?

  • Absolutely! We encourage new wrestlers to come try one or two practices before fully committing. Most kids end up loving it and want to continue. You can complete registration after the trial if you decide to join us.
