No, but they are VERY helpful. “Regular” shoes are not allowed on the mats, so if they do not have wrestling shoes, they will be in socks. Socks don’t have any grip to them, so they will be slipping and sliding around, which is not very beneficial. Also, shoes will help with protecting feet and toes from injury.
What do we need for practice?
The best practice gear is a pair of athletic shorts, a shirt that can be tucked in, and a pair of wrestling shoes (see #1). Headgear is not required for practice, but you can purchase a pair for your wrestler to wear if you like.
If your wrestler has braces, it is a good idea (and required for tournaments) to have a mouth guard for top and/or bottom of the mouth.

What is the best way to make sure we don’t get any skin irritations or infections?
Our mats are mopped DAILY. Our wrestlers MUST wear clean clothes.
Please make sure all wrestlers shower as soon as possible after practice, preferably with an anti-bacterial soap or body wash; this will help us in ensuring that they do not have to deal with health or skin issues, etc. as a result of perspiration, hand-to-hand contact, etc.
Do you only take kids from certain schools, or who are going to be going to specific schools?
No, We neither recruit for any school nor encourage transferring schools for athletic purposes. Our mission is simple--we are here for the kids, first & foremost, & aim to provide opportunities for growth & development through the sport of wrestling, competition & being on a team. We gladly accept any student from any school.
What if my student and I are unsure about wrestling? Can we try it for a couple of practices?
Absolutely. If you are unsure, please come and have them try us out for one or two practices. After that, they will probably be hooked and can finish the registration process then.
